About the Institution
Sri Ramakrishna Math, Nattarampalli, on the Madras - Bangalore National
Highways near Jolarpet Railway Station, is one of the oldest rural centres
of the Ramakrishna Movement. It caters service to the thousands of poor
people covering about 60 villages all around.
Swami Vivekananda says, 'If the poor cannot come to Education, Education must reach him.' He continues: 'Education, Education, Education alone! Travelling through many cities of Europe and observing in them the comforts and education of even the poor people, there was brought to my mind the state of our own people and I used to shed tears. What made the difference? Education was the answer I got. Through education comes faith in oneself, and through faith in one's ownself, the inherent Brahman wakes up .. But know for certain that absolutely nothing can be done to improve the state of things, unless there is spread of education first among the women and the masses.'
Keeping this as the ideal besides religious preaching, medical services, tailoring and typing classes for the poor students, the Math runs a school with classes from L.K.G to Standard V.
Ramakrishna Vidyalaya was started in the year 1982 with 162 students. As is the wont of all our institutions, the beginning was made in a humble way in thatched sheds. Year by year slowly the strength grew and today there are about 400 students in the school. Owing to the lack of space and proper facilities, we are finding it extremely difficult to continue the school in the existing asbestos sheds.
Hence it is proposed to put up a pucca two storied building to house sixteen classes, office room, dormitory, etc. It is estimated to cost Rs. 30 lakhs.
Needless to say, the haves should lend an helping hand to the have nots. So we appeal to you to come forward and associate in this noble cause of worshipping the poor by donating liberally to construct this temple of learning. We also welcome the donations in kind in the form of building materials such as cement, steel, wood, etc.
Each class room will cost Rs. 1,00,000/-. You may donate this amount in the sweet memory of any of your family members and their names will be prominently displayed in the building.
All donations to the Math are exempted from income tax under section 80G of the Indian Income Tax Act.
We sincerely pray to Sri Ramakrishna to bestow His choicest blessings on you and your family members for all round prosperity.
Educational
School
The Math runs an English medium primary school with classes from Nursery
to standard V in order to educate the poor children of Nattarampalli and
the neighbouring villages. There are 385 students on its rolls at present.
It has a bus to bring children to school from far-away villages.
Besides these children, nearly 500 children studying at various other schools are presented with school uniforms, notebooks, pencils and other items of stationery worth Rs. 50,000/- every year.
Care of the poor boys
The Math takes care of 40 indigent local children without any discrimination
of caste or creed. They are provided with accomodation, food, milk, dress,
textbooks, notebooks and other educational requirements. They are also
taken on educational excursions. These students get the Gurukula type of
education.
Celebration of National Youth Day
12th January, the birthday of Swami Vivekananda, is celebrated as the
National Youth Day in India. On this occasion, a sports meet, a procession
and a public meeting are organized. Hundreds of youths participate in this
celebration.
Social
Annai Sarada Devi Tailoring Institute for Women
Every year, 25 poor women coming from poor families are given extensive
training in tailoring for one year. These women, after the training, become
self-employed. The Math helps the trainees to get bank loan so that they
may own their own tailoring machines. Many of them, after completing the
training, get suitable jobs in garment factories also.
Supply of Drinking Water
Nattarampalli is a draught-affected area and for years the Math has
been supplying drinking water practically to the whole village. A big well
and a overhead tank have been constructed for this purpose.
Charitable Dispensary
The Math started a charitable dispensary in the year 1978. This has
various departments such as X-ray, Pathology, E.C.G. and Dental. It treats
on an average about 350 patients a day.
Mobile Medical Service
The Math has a full-fledged medical van which caters for hundreds of
poor patients of different villages. It covers about 75 villages and treats
about 100 poor patients every day.
Special Medical Camps
In addition to the above medical service, from time to time medical
camps are organized at different villages by bringing eminent doctors in
different specialities from Madras and other places. Expert medical advice
and treatment are given to poor people at these camps.
Yoga Camps
Occasionally Yoga classes are conducted to help especially the youth
of the villages to maintain physical and mental health. Hundreds are benefited
by these camps.
Our immediate needs
Endowment funds for maintaining the 45 poor students in our Math (as we have no such endowment now) for running this noble institution without any financial strain.
In order that the Mobile Rural Dispensary may not feel financial crunch in these days of spiralling costs, an endowment has to be instituted.
The present well and bore-well which supply drinking water to the villages is found to be inadequate. Therefore another bore-well has to be sunk to meet fully the needs of the people.
A new Medical Van.
The Primary School has to be housed in pucca buildings instead of the make-shift class-rooms that we have now.
The present kitchen and dining hall are too small to accomodate the increasing number of inmates, volunteers and guests. The Monks' quarters also stands in need of expansion.
In the name of the poor rural brethren whom we have been privileged
to serve for more than eight decades, we earnestly appeal to the generous
public to help us by sending liberal donations. All contributions made
to us are exempted from INCOME TAX in India under Section 80G.
